In the Contamines-Montjoie valley, in Haute Savoie, snow groomers have little by little replaced the hay wagons. Within half a century, the winter tourist industry has transformed the life of the inhabitants; now that the white gold mine is wearing out, feelings are contradictory, and something like bitterness is beginning to be acknowledged. How can we view the invisible ties that link men to their land? “Miage”, a documentary-opera, with the presence of a string quartet and a band of Alphorns, illustrates this attachment. This ecological fable is accompanied by music to draw an original portrait of a highland territory undergoing deep change. A mirror across the table reflects the spectator's image. The skull of vanity is also part of the scenery, but here it is an animal skull echoing our own animality. Loud-speakers, hidden in the walls, emit a poetic interview about the forest. This interview was recorded during a meal organised in the installation with local inhabitants. It is accompanied by sounds collected in the environment during the residency : fire, bees, rain, etc.	... [photos]

Beyond the Landscape.
Sound Walks : human ecology as the sensitive thread

The hybrid shape of the Sound Walks, halfway between walk, sound creation, cartography and documentary, decrypts a territory through its inhabitants and their use of it. Here, the concept of landscape gives way to one of human ecology or an anthropology of sensitivity. Their immaterial nature puts materialism and the notion of object in art into perspective.

The walls of the room are entirely covered with pine while pieces of Dutch furniture stand in the middle of the room. A mirror across the table reflects the spectator's image. The skull of vanity is also part of the scenery, but here it is an animal skull echoing our own animality. Loud-speakers, hidden in the walls, emit a poetic interview about the forest. This interview was recorded during a meal organised in the installation with local inhabitants. It is accompanied by sounds collected in the environment during the residency : fire, bees, rain, etc.
